Project on “Good Agricultural Practices Based Advisory for Crop Health Management in Pathanamthitta District” Funded by Department of Agriculture Development and Farmers’ Welfare, Govt. of Kerala with a total outlay of Rs. 4, 25 lakhs in the year 2019-20.
Background of the project was substantial crop loss was recorded due to pest and disease incidence in crops such as banana, vegetables, tuber crops and ginger in Pathanamthitta District during the cropping season. The present practices of pest management through the indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides are largely unscientific and result in environmental hazards.
In recent years, there is a greater awareness among consumers on the health hazards caused by the unscientific application of pesticides and fertilizers in the crops. The demands for creating awareness among the farming community on the eco-friendly crop health management practices would lead to the production of safe-to-eat food through Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).
